Some people they call me Jack

During a recent conversation with a friend of mine who works in sales, he made reference to "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". (Sales - wouldn't ya know it!)

Although I had never heard of it before, he assured me it is an enormously popular self help book. So I looked it up.

The following, in case you are wondering, are the habits or highly effective people:

  • Be Proactive.
  • Begin with the End In Mind.
  • Put First Things First.
  • Think Win/Win.
  • Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood.
  • Synergize.
  • Sharpen the saw.

I would suggested that the aforementioned habits could be marketed just as effectively as a Beginners Guide to Serial Killing.

Oh God. I went on a management training course with my last job and they spent 3 days reiterating this list under various forms in an attempt to make us efficient people. *shudder* Maybe that explains my serial killer tendencies since.

Sounds fascinating - or is that mind numbingly excruciating?

A mate came back from one of those tony robbins motivation lectures last year and couldn't hold a conversation without spewing incredibly irritating 'sales talk' every few minutes. "Blue sky thinking" my friggin swinging mickey!

"Begin with the end in mind." Trying to figure out the desirable/likely end result is the number one thing that stops me doing any work. Effective my arse.

Years ago when I worked in a bookstore one of the sections I had to run was business where that covey book was a big seller.
All the dudes who bought it looked like potential serial killers or wife beaters.
